THE ORGANIZATION

The Governor General, His Excellency The Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, ON, GCMG, CD is our Patron. The Hon. John Issa is the Chairman for the Board of Trustees, Ms. Lilyclare Bellamy is our National Executive Committee Chairman and Vernon Derby is the National Director.

There are now 70 units operating in Jamaica which involves schools, churches, Girl Brigades, Boys Brigade, and groups in the prisons. These units are supported by approximately 275 leaders island wide catering to over 2632 young people. We are working hard to increase this number and your support will help us to do this.

We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education to have the programme in all secondary schools in Jamaica. At the begining of June 2010 we had a meeting with the Chief Education Officer to review our progress since this memorandum was signed.

OBJECTIVES

One of our main objectives is for our participants, leaders and other volunteers to engage in fulfilling and fun loving activities which will promote positive self development amongst our youth.

As we continue to promote the many advantages of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Programme, we encourage those of you who are not yet involved to make contact with the National Office.  We plan to make this programme the programme of choice for young people in Jamaica because we know that if we 'Take care of our youth, we will have taken care of the future'

MAINTAINING OUR CONTACTS

We will continue aggressively  to improve our links with other government and non-governmental agencies and departments of government. Examples of these are the Council For Volunteer & Social Services, The Police Force, The Jamaica Defence Force,The Ministry of Education, The Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture, The Cadets, Scouts, Girls Brigade, Food For The Poor and the YMCA.

We will also continue to maintain our contacts with all those in the private and public sector who continue to support the work of this exciting, prestigious and international programme for young people. The Award Programme appreciates your continued support.
