THE ORGANIZATION

The Governor General,The Most Honourable Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, ON, GCMG, OJ. The Hon. John Issa, OJ is the Chairman for the Board of Trustees, Ms. Lilyclare Bellamy is our National Executive Committee Chairman and Vernon Derby is the National Director.

There are now 66 units operating in Jamaica which involves schools, churches, Girl Brigades, Boys Brigade, and groups in the prisons. These units are supported by approximately 180 leaders island wide catering to over 1100 young people. We are working hard to increase this number and your support will help us to do this.

We are now in the second year after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education to have the programme in all secondary schools.

OBJECTIVES

One of our main objectives is for our participants, leaders and other volunteers to engage in fulfilling and fun loving activities which will promote positive self development amongst our youth.

As we continue to promote the many advantages of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Programme, we encourage those of you who are not yet involved to make contact with the National Office.  We plan to make this programme the programme of choice for young people in Jamaica because we know that if we 'Take care of our youth, we will have taken care of the future'

MAINTAINING OUR CONTACTS

We will continue aggressively  to improve our links with other government and non-governmental agencies and departments of government. Examples of these are the Police Force, The Ministry of Education and Youth, The Cadets, Scouts, Girls Brigade and the YMCA.

'SAVE THE YOUTH, SAVE JAMAICA' INITIATIVE

Our church leaders have been approached to promote a programme called 'Save The Youth, Save Jamaica' which we hope that the churches will spearhead. This will involve each church sponsoring at least 20 young persons to do the Award Programme. We will recommend that the churches sponsor a number of youths who are at risk in their communities. Feedback from some church leaders so far has been positive.
