The President of the Jamaica Cycling Association met with leaders of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Jamaica recently to discuss how the members can assist leaders and participants in preparing themselves for a cycling expedition. The president of the Cycling Association of Jamaica, told the National Director Vernon Derby that it is possible that if the young people start now, some might even be ready for the next Olympics.
Students from Penbroke Hall High have shown strong interest in cycling. Emails have already been sent to the Leaders asking them to indicate to the NAA those participants which are interested. Initially only those participants in Kingston might be able to participate since training facilities already exist at the National Stadium. (Sep. 2010)
A Gold Award Residential will take place in December at the historic Port Royal. Approximately fifty participants are expected to participate. This is their final activity before their prestigious GOld Award Ceremony which is usually held at Kings House.
The particpants are not only expected to live together but they will be exposed to a number of seminars dealing with leadership, conflict management and also they will be giving service to various institutions in the town of Port Royal.(Sep. 2010)
